Building the capacity of local church networks so as to create community based trauma care minitries
Yaoundé and Limbe, Cameroon – From November 3rd to 11th, 2022, DCI Cameroon, in collaboration with SIL Cameroon and David Boan, organized a pilot demonstration workshop in Yaoundé and Limbe. This intensive training aimed to empower local church networks to establish and sustain community-based trauma care ministries.
Building Capacity for Trauma Care
The workshop focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the needs of individuals affected by trauma, including victims of disasters and conflicts. Participants gained valuable insights into:
- Trauma-informed care principles: Understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and communities.
- Building and sustaining trauma care ministries: Developing effective strategies for providing support and resources to those in need.
- Community mobilization and engagement: Fostering collaboration and partnerships to create a supportive network for trauma survivors.
Planting Seeds of Hope
As David Boan aptly stated, “We have planted seeds, and we know that by the grace of God, we’ll do the follow-up.” The workshop served as a catalyst for building a foundation for sustainable trauma care ministries in Cameroon. Participants left equipped to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities affected by trauma.
